Is the Merkur 34C's ergonomic handle comfortable to hold?

Post by DylanTheDreamer »

I've recently acquired the Merkur 34C safety razor and I'm curious about the ergonomic handle - is it comfortable to hold? I've heard great things about the knurling on the handle, which I assume is designed to improve grip and prevent slip even when wet. The weight of the Merkur 34C feels substantial in my hand, and I'm wondering if the heavier handle is beneficial for shaving at certain angles. I've tried shaving with the sharpest blade I could find, but I still get a bit of unevenness towards the ends of my shave. Has anyone else experienced this, or are there any changes I can make to my technique to get a smoother finish? I've turned to the Merkur 34C entirely because of its reputation for comfort and closeness, so I'd appreciate any insights from experienced users.

I've found the Merkur 34C's ergonomic handle to be quite comfortable, particularly due to the knurled surface, which provides a secure grip even when wet.

Try shaving at a slightly more shallow angle, and focus on using the weight of the razor to do the work for you.

I agree, the knurled surface does provide a secure grip, but I've found the real comfort comes from the weight distribution, allowing for a more natural shaving motion.

I totally get where you're coming from with the unevenness at the ends of your shave. I've been there too!

What's your take on how the 34C's weight affects the shaving experience? Do you find yourself adjusting your grip or stroke to compensate?

I've found the Merkur 34C's weight to be a game-changer, especially when shaving at more aggressive angles. The added heft allows for a more confident stroke, which in turn helps reduce unevenness. Try experimenting with a slightly firmer grip and see if that improves your results.

Sorry to hear you're experiencing unevenness at the ends of your shave.
