Achieving Precise Sideburn and Ear Area Trimming at Home

I've been finding it quite challenging to trim my hair around the sideburns and ear areas by myself. Does anyone have any step-by-step techniques or pro-tips for DIY maintenance to prevent uneven trims? I’ve tried following videos and articles online, but it seems like I'm missing something crucial because I end up with less than desirable results. Also, if anyone has recommendations for specific tools that could aid in getting that barbershop precision at home, especially for creating a tapered or pointed sideburn look, that would be very helpful. As much as I appreciate the convenience of an electric trimmer, I'm open to exploring razors or shears if they offer better control. I’d love to hear about different tools and methods that have worked for you or any mistakes to avoid that could lead to a trip to the barber to fix self-inflicted hair mishaps.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the handiest of them all? Try the 'ol glasses-off, comb-flat, trim-what-sticks-out method. And remember, practice makes perfect... or at least passable!

I had similar struggles. Using a narrow-blade electric trimmer helped me.

I've had success with a Trac II razor for my sideburns. Maybe it could help.

I've found success using a straight razor for precision, and a Trac II razor for shaping. Have you tried those tools?
