Best Practices for Trimming Long Beards with Hair Clippers

I've recently taken the plunge and decided to trim my fairly long beard, which I've been growing out for several months. I'd like to maintain about half an inch of length, and while I have a set of hair clippers, I don't have a dedicated beard trimmer. Before I get started, I'm hoping to gather some advice from the community on how to best use the hair clippers for this job. How do you ensure an even trim? Are there specific techniques or guards that work best for longer beards? Moreover, is it necessary to invest in a specialized beard trimmer for future use, or can hair clippers suffice with the right approach? Any tips on maintenance and care for the clippers after trimming would also be appreciated!

For an even trim, always go against the grain with a steady hand. Regular clippers can work just fine!
