Best Practices for Drilling into Cast Iron Skillets

I've recently embarked on a unique project involving upcycling old cast iron skillets into clocks. I understand the basics of needing to drill a central hole for the clock mechanism, and I've gathered that a quality carbide drill bit, low speeds, and proper lubrication are key factors for success. However, I'm a bit uncertain on the specifics and could use some advice. Could anyone with experience in metalwork provide insights on the best techniques to drill a 5/8-inch hole in cast iron by hand? Additionally, what type of oil would be optimal for cooling and lubrication during the drilling process? I want to ensure the skillets are not damaged and the finish is professional for these gifts. Thank you in advance for your guidance!
