Is the Merkur 38C suitable for shaving dense beards?

I'm considering purchasing the Merkur 38C, but I'm not sure if it's suitable for shaving dense beards. I've heard great things about its ability to provide a close shave, but I'm worried it might struggle with my thick facial hair. I've tried using a trimmer to keep my beard in check, but I'd love to achieve a smoother result with a safety razor. I've read that the Merkur 38C is great for those with big hands, which I have, but I'm concerned that it might not be able to handle my dense beard. Has anyone out there had success using the Merkur 38C to shave a dense beard? Do you need to use a lot of lather and oil to help the razor glide smoothly, or can you get away with a light, careful touch? I've got a badger brush that I love using to create a rich lather, but I'm not sure if it's necessary with the Merkur 38C. I'd also appreciate any tips on how to trim my mustache and sideburns carefully, as I've had some bad experiences with nicks and cuts in the past. I've heard that the Merkur 38C is a bit of a tight shave, but is it tough to get used to? Help would be greatly appreciated!

As I ponder the dance between razor and whisker, I'm reminded that density is not solely a characteristic of the beard, but also of the shaving experience itself. The Merkur 38C, with its hefty design and closed comb, invites us to slow down, to savor the strokes, and to listen to the whispers of our skin. It's not just about taming the beast, but about harmonizing with it.

I've had great success with the Merkur 38C on my dense beard. It's all about technique and patience. Take your time, shave with the grain, and use a light touch. You'll be surprised at how well it handles thick hair.

I appreciate the poetic perspective on shaving with the Merkur 38C, but I'd like to offer a more practical take. While technique and patience are crucial, I've found that a rich lather from my trusty badger brush makes a significant difference in gliding smoothly over dense beards. It's not about heavy-handedness, but rather about creating a comfortable, lubricated environment for the razor to work its magic.

Agree with the poetic perspective, but technique is key. Focus on WTG strokes and adjust angle for dense areas.

I appreciate the emphasis on technique and patience, but I'd like to add that the Merkur 38C's closed comb design can actually be a blessing for dense beards. The extra blade exposure can help cut through thick hair more efficiently, but it does require a gentle touch to avoid irritation. Has anyone found that the razor's weight and balance help with this?
