Is the Merkur 23C razor prone to corrosion or plating failure?

Here's a possible context for the question:

I've been eyeing the Merkur 23C razor for a while now, and I'm impressed by its striking design and craftsmanship. The bright, chrome-plated finish gives it a sophisticated look that's hard to resist. But before I take the plunge, I want to make sure it's built to last. I've heard great things about Merkur's precision construction and attention to detail, but I'm concerned about the longevity of the plating. Has anyone experienced corrosion or plating failure with the Merkur 23C? I'd love to get a complimentary overview from owners who've had theirs for a while. Is the metal grade used in its construction corrosion-resistant, or are there any special care instructions I should follow to ensure it remains rust-free? I'm looking for a razor that will provide unparalleled performance for years to come, and I want to know if the Merkur 23C is up to the task.

I've had my 23C for over a year now and have had zero issues with corrosion or plating failure.

I totally understand your concern about corrosion, especially with the humid environment we shave in. I'm glad to hear that some owners haven't experienced any issues, but I'd recommend taking extra care to dry your razor thoroughly after use and storing it in a well-ventilated area to minimize the risk.

I completely understand your concern about corrosion, and it's great that you're doing your research before making a purchase. I've heard that regular cleaning and drying can go a long way in preventing any issues, and it's good to hear that some owners haven't experienced any problems.

I'd like to add that the Merkur 23C's brass handle and die-cast zinc head are indeed susceptible to corrosion if not properly cared for. However, with regular cleaning and drying, I believe the risk can be significantly minimized.

I can understand why corrosion is a concern for you, and I appreciate the comments from owners who've had positive experiences. However, I'd like to share a thought - even with proper care, corrosion can still occur due to external factors like humidity or storage conditions. Perhaps it's not just about the material quality, but also how we store and maintain our razors. Has anyone considered using a razor stand or case with a drying mechanism to reduce the risk of moisture accumulation?

I'm a bit of a neat freak, so I make sure to dry my Merkur 23C with a soft cloth after every use. I've had mine for about 8 months now, and not a single spot of rust in sight!

I've had my 23C for a few years now, and I've never had any corrosion issues. I attribute it to my habit of storing it in a dry area and giving it a quick wipe with a soft cloth after each use.

I totally get your concerns, but I've gotta say, a little TLC can go a long way!
